R Union S.S. Co.'s Cup. The president stated that Mr. E. Short i had received a telegram from tlio presi- , dent of the Clydesdale Society, stating f that the Union S.S. Company's .£SO dial- • lenge cup for the'best Clydesdale mare entored in the Stud Book had been allotted V to the Manawatu Association for the spring show. Mr* Short also stated that a e ,£SO cup had been allotted to Diinedin, c and the donors had decided that tho North e Island should' bo treated similarly. On the motion of Mr. Gillies, seconded by the chairman, the cup was accepted with thanks. The Closing Year. ,- The chairman remarked that the pre- \ sent meeting was the last of the current; " year. JIo thanked members for their loyal f support of himself as chairman, and also; j made complimentary reference to tho woi'k i of tho secretary"(Mi\ W. T. Penny). v Mr. T. R. Hodder reported on the result of a deputation which had waited t upon the Minister for Railways to ask £ for special Stock trains; connecting with J the northern districts. These had been ' granted. A vote of thanks was passed J to the -Minister. „ Twenty new members were elected. c The schedule for the spring show was - passed. 1 The chairman Teported on the result ' of a deputation to the Land Board with £ .regard to obtaining the right for/Pascal j Bros.' to cut a road through the cduca- j .tio'ii- reserve' as- an exchange ■ transaction, c The purpose was to enable the association J to take',n section at the rear of the show • grounds and thus connect up its- pro.perties. Elections. / 2 The following were elected vice-presi- i dents for the ensuing year:—Messrs. / D. t Buick, M.P., J. A. Nash, J. G. Harkness, and I): Fringlc. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mr. Jno. Freezing Works, to be asked to allow his expert 16 judge. •'■■,., Other Business. This being the last, meeting of tho committee over which Mr. A. Conway would •preside, he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. . . . ' ~ In returning thanks, the president said that he had endeavoured to be of some use to the''association, and was glad to know that his efforts were appreciated. . Messrs. Harkness and Pringle expressed their thanks for election as vice-presidents. Mr. Harkness urged upon those present tho importance- of the approaching conference of the National Dairy Association, o,nd said that he hoped that Mr. M'Connell, manager of the Kuakura Experiment Farm, would read his paper on lucerne growing, etc.. ..... , Tho president referred to a paragraph , published by a Wairarapa paper, to the effect'that the Masterton Association had the largest membership of any society in the Dominion, which was stated to be something over eleven hundred. Mr. Conway stated that the claim was incorrect, as the Manawatu Association had over thirteen hundred members.
