The Valuor-General advised that _ the Assessment Court would sit on Friday, June M.\ The Petone Council forwarded a cheque for c£sl 12s. sd. as two years' share ill regard to licensing expenses. The Hutt Park Committee made application for a contribution and. pointed out that the arrangement to let 10 hockey grounds would yield a. revenue of from .£7O to JMO per year—Held over. A case of diphtheria in the borough was reported. Jlr. F. .lenness intimated that lie was prepared to continue tho contract of winding and repairing the post offico clock for .£2O per annum .--Agreed to. Jlr. G. Bradley wrote objecting to paying for the water used at his new motor garage for lavatory purposes, though ho (lid not mind paying for water used for his business.—After considering an opinion from the municipal solicitor, tho matter was referred to the works committee. _ ; A"ine_ residents of Epuni Street wrote protesting against the state of the road and footpaths.—To bo inspected by the council. Tho following report praying a regulation by-law to govern the speed of motor-cars was read:— , Hutt and Allen's Bridges.—That the speed across and within two hundred yards of these bridges ou each side of the river shall not exceed ten miles an hour. Twenty-mile Limit.—That the speed be limited to 20 miles an hour on the following streets:—The- whole length of Waterloo Koad, Jlain Street from corner of 'Waterloo Road .to northern boundary of borough, Stain Road from south to rail' way station to Wakefield Street, Woburn Road and that portion of White's Line froiii the cross roads to the back Waiwetu Road. Fifteen-mile Limit.—Liidlam Crescent, Western. Hutt Road, Tama Street, Jlain Street between Waterloo Road and the railway station, except tho bridge and approaches as referred to. Street Corners.—That the speed round all street corners shall be not more than eight miles an hour, with the following exceptions:—Post Office corner, corner opposite Railway Hotel leading to Alice-" tonn, corner of Wakefield Street and Hutt Road, and tho corner at the V.I.CV and Brunswick Street, in each case the speed shall be limited to five miles an hour. ■ Railway Crossing.—That at this corner the speed be limited to ten miles an hour. Speedometers.—The committee recommend that all cars should be fitted with speedometers, nnd that car's should be licensed anmiallv, subject to an efficient examination of brakes, etc. The report evoked considerable discussion. several councillors pointing out that the clauses were too complicated, and, if passed, would he enforced. Several amendments were tabled, but, on tho motion of the Jlayor, it was decided to submit the report lo the municipal solicitor, and bring the matter up at next meeting. The engineer reported that the sower on Section 5, eastern drainage, had been laid within two chains of Military Road. Hie amount of cost of labour Has JJ2BS Os. 2d., and the estimate .£320. The pumping station had undergone several repairs. The centrifugal pump on order would be to hand on July 0. Six connections havo been made with the water-mains, bringing the total to 885: bid permits under the Drainage a.nd Sanitary By-law had been issued to date. The Jlayor was appointed to represent the council at the Municipal Conference. The following remit to the Municipal Association was moved by the Mayor:— That borough councils be authorised to pay out of their district funds the cost of maintaining clocks (placed in Government buildings, such as post offices) by public subscription. The annual inspection of the borough by councillors was fixed for next, Saturday.
