COMMEEOIAL UNION ASSUHAN(?E. The report of the Commercial Union Assurance Company. Ltd., lor 1911, stales that in the Are department the net premiums for 1911 amounted to £3,182,871. bcine ail mcreasc of £42,904 a,s compared with the year 1910 and the claims paid <m;l outstanding to £1.771,597, or 55.6 per cent, of tile premium income. From the profit* of this department the sum of £220,000 lias been earned to profit and loss: and. after providing for outstanding claim's, the fire insurance fund stands at £3,204,612. The net premiums received in the marine department were £315,809 find the claims paid and outstanding amounted to £168,926 From the profits of this department the .sum of £jO,OOD has been carried to profit and loss; and, after providing for outstanding claims, the marine insurance fund stands at £817,439. From the profits of tlie accidont department tlie sum of £120,000 has been carried to profit mid loss; and after providing for outstanding claims .MfPS? 1 "F oillclil insurance fund stands at £714,028. The sums carricd to profit and loss from the lire, marine and nccidcut departments amount, to £370,000; out of which the sun of £200,0C0 lias been applied towards reducing "cost of businesses <icquircd," and provision made for a. bonus to the staff and other .special expenses of £35.CCC. Tho balance of this account w £170,1/7 carried forward to 1912. and out ! of that amount the directors recommend the payment of a dividend of 8?. per share (less income-tax), making. with the interim dividend: paid in November last, lfc. per share (less income-tax) for tlie vear.
