DISEASED DAIRY STOCK.
RESTRICTING THE SALE. Tho question of dealing with tho unrestricted sale of dairy cows affected with such diseases as contagious mammitis, contagious abortion, and sterility, and of diseased bulls, is, according to tho Minister for Agriculture, being .carefully considered at present by the Agricultural Department. While on the one hand the desirableness of doing whatever is practically possible to assist farmers in this direction is fully realised, on the other hand earo will nave to be exercised in thinking out methods which will be reasonably effective and capable of practical application, while at the same time not being of such a nature as to -.be troublesome and harassing to farmers who are doing their best. It is satisfactory to realise in connection with these diseases of cows that none of them are anything like as prevalent as was the case a fewyears back,- tho efforts of the Department, carried out in conjunction with the farmers, to get them under control having given excellent results.
