The Vanderaaire was practising attack. She rose under the Saint Louis's bow and sank in 170 feet of water. Great bubbling on the surface ensued, and the sea was covered with oil. Portions of tho Vandemairo's deck rose within twelvo minutes. WaTships immediately anchored on the spot, but nothing further was seen. Strong sea currents impede salvage work.
