WAIHI AND REEFTON.
THE LEVY QUESTION. (By Tclcsrapn.—Press Association.) Greymouth, Juno 4. A general meeting of the State Mine Industrial Union endorsed tho action taken by the Federation Executive, and struck "a levy of 10 per cent, towards assisting comrades at Waihi and Reefton. Auckland, June I. Tho Huntly miners took a ballot yesterday on the federation proposal of a 10 per cent, levy on the wages of affiliated unions to assist the miners out of work. It is reported that there was a substantial .majority in favour, but owing to tho number absent on holiday the meeting was adjourned to enable absentees to record their votes. Westport, June 4. The Waterside Workers' Union meeting last evening endorsed tho action of the Federation of Labour as regards the Waihi and Reofton strikers, and made a levy of Ift per cent. They aslo granted jC2-i for the strike funds. Reefton, June 4. There are ino further developments regarding the 'mining trouble. It, is understood that the question has been referred by tho Labour Department to the Crown Law Officers. Meanwhile filings here have been very quiet. During the fortnight of the trouble thero has not be-.m a single case of drunkenness before the Courts, and matters are very quiet indeed. The men have gone out to work on the roads and on Government works, but the weather is very disagreeable, and will prevent outside work. Beyond a slackness in business, there is no sign of tha labour .trouble. The coursing meeting yesterday was well attended in spite of the rain, and local dances and functions aro well patronised. The other mines are working as iisunl.
