The King's' Birthday did not indudo "King's weather" yesterday, though perhaps the community who enjoyed the compulsory holiday should be thankful that the rain : held oft', and that the streets were dry underfoot. It was a gray day made chilly. by a sharp wind, which gathered an edge, through being stropped on the snow-cap-ped ridges of the Tararuas. While tho fireside nnist have claimed a gcoil proportion of the public, a big crowd turned out to see the Birthday review -.at Nowtown Park in the morning, ami the attendances at the football.matches were satisfactory. The uncertainty of the weather prevented a, big exodus from the city to the country, which however presents few attractions to the holiday-maker at this season of tho year. ' ■ ' The railway traffic, as reported by tho traffic manager's office, was as follows : i - To the Otnki Kaces, 1200; north of Packakariki, 4GS; south'of I'aekakariki, 200; to tho ■ Wairarapa, 200; to Hutt Valley, GOO. The surprise of Hie day ro the railway authorities was the number of people w*ho journeyed from the Lower Hutt and Petone into town to witness the military review at the park. Independent of. Auckland, Juno 3. Fine weather prevailed for the holiday and large crowds attended tho Auckland Facing Club's big meeting at Ellerslie. A review of Territorials was held in the Domain, and was attended by tho Minister for Defence (the 7Fon. A. Jl. J[ypr-=). Thcro were about 1200 on parade. Jlany southern visitors aro in town. Grcymouthi June 3. The programme arranged for to-day's celebrations was abandoned on account of the .heavy rain. . The children assembled at tho High School gymnasium and saluted tho flag. Addresses were, given by Sir. Perkins, Slayor, Mr. Adams, i-ector, and Mr. Daniel, secretary to the Education Hoard. In the afternoon the children were entertained «t free Uogrnph pictures.
