HANDLING FROZEN MEAT.
POSITION IN LONDON. The frozen meat market in London is experiencing a temporary set-back owing to the strike of transport workers, but the impression locally is'that if heeds bo the Government will ..assist in the distribution of the meat now held upon the steamers from New Zealand and Australia after which prices will resume, their normal level. The Associated Meat Exporting Companies of the North Island hope that considerable improvement in tho.'. discharge and handling of frozen meat in London will be effected. Dr. Robinson, who is watching the. companies' interests in London, has written to. tho effect that the prospects of obtaining the faoilities required of the Port of London Authority are most ' promising. The recommendations made by Dr. Robinson to the Port Authority in the di-, recHon of appointing an officer to con r trol the meat work have, it in stated, borne fruits and a gentleman weth a. wide experience of handling frozen meat cargoes has been appointed to do nothing else but that'- work.
' ' It is also stated that the views of'the Associated Freezing Companies have been concurred in by the Incorporated Society of Meat Importers, who recognise that "it cs as much; in their interests as in (he interests of- Hie exporter Hint Iho meat cargoes should arrive- in first-class condition. The. Port of London Authority, Dr. Robinson thinks, will finally decide nn a site at the Albert Docks for the necessary discharging, handling, and sorting facilities. A conference of the Associated' Meat Export Companies of the. North Island is to be held in Wellington on July 9.
