NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.
THE PALMERSTON WINTER FIXTURE. Duriii" the present;mouth the ninth annual National Dairy Show of the Munawatu and West Coast.A. and I'. Association will be held at Palmerston North. Almost every year has seen a remarkable increase in the number of entries; indeed, they increased to such an extent that it wns found necessary to extend the buildings. This was done, and still the accommodation is taxed to the utmost. Inquiries for the coming show are being received from the four corners of the Doniiuion.'and there is every indication that the fixture will easily .eclipse any of its predecessors. The whole of the machinery space in the Inijje hall has already been taken, anil inquiries are still coming to hand. As usual, dairy machinery and appiinnces will figure prominently among the exhibits. The show i« essentially one for the dairy farmer, iind every effort has' been expended in making it as attractive, interesting, and instructive as possible. Dairy factory products are invariably a strong feature of the show, mid, judging by the 'inquiries received, this month's fixture will prove no exception to the rule. The show lifts come to be looked upon as a testing ground for New Zealand, and the Iran whose exhibits take a prize must have the very best of their kind. Fruits, garden vegetables, and fiold roots should also be strongly represented. There promises to be an exceptionally fine showing of locally-grown fruit—probably one of the finest yet seen in the district—and competition should be keen. In point of view of,interest the horse competitions must be looked upon i\s outstanding features of the show. They have been liberally endowed with prize money, and are sure, to attract large entries. ]"or the maiden hunters' competition there is a. first prize of ,£lO, a second of <K>, and a third of £2. The C'ollinson and Cunninghamc Hunters' Cup will be eagerly sought after. Then there is the annual tootball match between the Wangaimi and Te Ante Colleges, which always attracts a large attendance of spectators. There will also be a hounds display; and last, but not least, mention must be made, of the exhibition of poultry which is to be made by the Maiinwatu Poultry Associntioni.lt is stated that it is probable that the birds shown not long 'since at Sydney by Mr. A. Pernno, the well-known Pic'ton poultry breedw, and for some of which he refused £2">, will' be among the entries, while, the local showing will altogether be. an unusually sirong one. Altogether the show gives promise of-being easily one of the most successful yet held.
