ATHLETIC SPORTS.
RUGBY FOOTBALL HOLIDAY MATCHES. The weekly Rugby I'nion official noto states: Matters in the local Rugby world nro quiet to-day on account of a general postponement through the military parade. On Monday afternoon tli-j local representative tram play their first match of the season against the representatives of the Rotorua Union. 'I , ho team which is composed almost wholly of Natives is the, first official team to represent the Rotoi'iia Union, which only came into existence last year. Patrons will remember the excellent game played by the Native team on their return from Australia in 1010 and if the present combination can produce anything approaching that form, spectators should bo satisfied with their visit to the park on Monday afternoon. A curtain-raiser will be played at 1.30, the teams being representatives of the Wellington and Chnstclntrch Railway Departments. To-night the two teams will bo the guests of the local union. A notice of interest to local players appears ill our advertising columns.
LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
A meeting of League footballers was held at the Trades Hall on Thursday evening, about 40 intending members being present, including many prominent Rugby players. A club was formed, the "Athletic Football Club." Following are the officers elected:— President, Mr. Alf. Linley; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. J. Selway, F. M'Parland, E. Donnelly, E. Jorgensen, M. J. Reardon, T. O'Farrell, J. Slines, and Dr. Clay; bon. secretary, Mr. G. Baskiyille; hon. treasurer, Mr. Blacker; committee, Messrs. R. Eazar, W. Wilson, R. Irvine, G. Bradley, W. Kelly, J. M'Callian, C. Murphy. LEAGUE TEAMS TO-DAY. The following League teams have been, chosen for matches to-day:— A team, to meet I'etone and Hutt Combined at Anderson Park, at 3.15 p.m.:— Forwards, E. Irvine, B. King, \V. "Wilson, C. Chapman, J. jjpencor, W. Cunningham. Backs, G. Baskivillo, P. O'Sullivan, G. Bradley, W. Kelly, H. M'Guire, G. Murphy, K. George. Emergencies—Forward: Agnew. Davis, — Chapham," J. Hamilton, Johnson, J. AVeaver. Included in the Hutt Valley team who are to oppose the A team are several well-known players, including T. Cross, H. Wright, Rainsden, and Barber.
BOXING.
« AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. Says, the official note from the secretary of the Wellington Boxing Association: Close on forty entries have been received to date, including many exponents not seen here before, while several first-rate men from other centres have notified their intention to compete. Intending competitors are notified that entries close to-night. The box plan will open on Tuesday next.

Playing for the Coronation Medal at Miramar on Thursday, the following ,scores were handed in:—Mrs. Freeth, 06 —14—81; Miss Carter, 107—15-92; Miss Gray, 107 —13 —91. Hood, the Auckland golf professional, favours the Challenger. On the Otahuhu Links he performed the-best round , in 72 with tho original Challenger Golf Ball. It has a magnificent flight.* 8
