TITANIC INQUIRY.
SENATOR SMITH AGAINFARCICAL SPEECH IN CONGRESS. BUOi'S TO MARK BURIALS. Cy Toiesraph—Press Association—CooyrlElii London, May 29. Several London newspapers protest against the speech made iu the United States Senate by Senator Smith, when presenting the report of the committee (of which he was chairman) regarding tho Titanic wreck. They refer to the .speech as "flamboyant journalism and rhetorical flapdoodle," but admit that the report itself is dignified and balanced. The attack on the British Board of Trade, they say, requires attention by the House of Commons. The New York "Globe" heads its comments on Senator Smith's speech, "Oh, What an Ass!" It declares that tlio report is farcical as a summary of tho evidence. Others call attention to Senator Smith s recommendation that buoys should be carried by every ship to mark tho place of burials. Several newspapers ask how a buoy could be anchored in mid-ocean.
