NEW BANK BUILDING.
FOE MANXEI'S STREET. Mr. Win. Turnbull has prepared the plans and specifications for a handsome bank building, to be erected on the corner of Manners and Cuba Streets, for tho Bank of New Zealand, in place of its -present promises, which have done .service for thirtv vears past. The new building, of brick, 'with 'a substantial steel frame, will iw three stories high, with frontages of 70ft. to Manners Street and 72ft. to Lower Cuba Street. Two-thirds of the space covered by the ground floor will be used for bank purposes. The remainder of the space provides for a large shop on tho Manners Street frontage,and an entranco to the stairway and elevator giving access to the floors above. The feature of the bank premises will be a large and lofty counting-house (Gift. by •lift.), with ample space for tile, public. The entrance will be at tho corner, the floor will be tiled, and the whole of the appointments will be made of Sydney cedar. On a mezzanine floor above Iho shop, apartments arf provided for the caretaker. As the strong-rooms are lo be located on the ground floor there will bo no underground vaults. The first and second floors will be divided into offices (22 in ail). Thi' floors and roof will be constructed of reinforced concrete, and the Hat roof specified is to be finished in Noui'halel asphalt. The exterior design, in classic style, is exceedingly handsome, a feature being massive columns (with handsome capitcls) anil pediments in high relief, which lend strength ami beauty to the building on each elevation. The exterior is to be finished in stucco. .\ period of twelve months is to be allowed the successful tenderer for the erection of the building.
