The journey occupied five month?, and the party experienced great trouble with tho blacks. He arrived ill New Zealand ill 18H, and went lr> California at the time of the 1849 rush. There he met Captain lloyd, and accompanied him on the yacht Wanderer on a cruise to Hie South Sens, where Captain Bovd was murdered by Solomon Islanders." The yacht was subsequently wrecked in a gale at Port Macmiarie. In 1851 Mr. Webster returned to New Zealand, and settled at Opononi, lfokianga Harbour, where lie for years entertained distinguished visitors to the district, including tho Earls of Glasgow and Rani'urly, and other New Zealand Governors. During the past few years Mr. Webster has been spending tin- evening of his long and eventful life in quiet retirement at Dcvonport.—Press Association.
