MIRAMAR AFFAIRS.
9 -- At the fortnightly meeting of the Miramar Borough Council, Councillor Bell (in the absence of the Mayor) took the chair. Other councillors present were: Councilors Bowie, Telford, Stone, Smith, and U ?W, was read from the postal authorities re telephones, two of which are to go into the district, one at Miramar and ono at Seatoun.—Tt was decided to ask for ono to be erected at Karaka Bny also.
The Defence Department wrote asking that the pond near l'oarce Street be drained.—The council resolved to ask tlse Department to assist in (lie work. The Gisborne Borough Council wrote requesting the Miramar Borough Council, ill supporting a petition tn have the hotel licenso rates raised.—As the council had none, to collect, no steps were taken.
The council regretted that, it was unable to offer a. donation to the Arts Club for <ho National Gallery. The present financial position of the borough could not warrant such a gift. The council approved of the expenditure of the Tree Planting Committee, amounting to .£9l llr
