DEPARTMENT OF LANDS.

STAFF PROMOTIONS. Following upon.tlio promotion of Mr. Jus. Mackenzie to the office of SurveyorGeneral, a number of nromotions and transfers in the Lands Department are announced. Mr. T. N. Brodrick, Commissioner of Crown Lands for Canterbury, has been appointed CirinmissiDntr for the Wellington Land District, in succession to Mr. James Mackenzie. Mr. C. T(. Pollen, Commissioner for Ilawke's Bay, takes Mr. Brodrick's place in Canterbury. Mr. I!. T. Sadd, Commissioner at Nelson, replaces Mr. Pollen at Napier. Mr. F. A. Thompson, Chief Draughtsman at Napier, has been promoted Commissioner of Crown Lands, and takes up duties at Nelson. Mr. W. It. Jourdain, of the Read Offic, has been promoted Chief Clerk at headquarters, in succession to Mr. F. T. O'Noill. Mr. Jourdain is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, and was secretary lo the Timber Commission. Mr. If. " Mackny, Land Transfer Draughtsman. Wellington, bcconies Chief Draughtsman at Napier. Mr. I'. S. Galliraith, District Surveyor, Auckland, goes to Inyerwirgill as Chief Draughtsman. Mr. J. Conk, Land Transfer Draughtsman at Now Plymouth, succeeds Mr. Mackay at Wellington.
