Bacon pigs were sightly easioi, and porkers were without change, lln-ie was a fairly large attendance at the sole. The entries «1 store sheep were mucli smaller than at recent sales, and consisted principally of ewes, amongst which \veie a special line of three-quartcr-breds from the north, and a few lines of good locallsbred sheep. The yarding included a lev lines from tho Chatham Islands, Hie ea.e for all descriptions was a remarkably good one, mm practically ei cry thing changed hands at auction. Ewes were in strong demand, and, if anything, were slightly dearer than at, the previous ea-e, this remark applying to ail classes, liw few pens of weihere ottcren soid rcmaruably well, whilst iu lambs there was a ■noticeable decline in values. Quotations were:-Ewes, six-tooths, lis. ad. to 18s. Bd., the latter price'being paid for North Island sheep; eight-tooth (good), lis. to lis. 2d.: full-mirath, to los. lOd. (for oversea, sheep); two; four, six, and eight-tootii mixed lines, 13s. to 13s. 6d.; four-tooth, los. 9d. to 16s. 6d.: full and fading-mouth, 9s. 6d. to 12s. 10d.; aged sorts, Bs. 6d. to 12s. lCd.; aged sorts, Bs. 6d to 9 5.6 d.; lambs, fairly forward Forts, 10s. 6d. to 12s. 10d., fair'linos. 10s. 9d. to Us. 3d.; small halfbred wethers, lu». to 10s. 6d.; ewe lambs, Us. lOd. to 12s. Ud.; wethers, forward sorts, 16=. 6d. to 17s. Ltd.; merinos. Its. 6d. There was again it very large entry or fat lambs. The greater portion was of good to prime quality, and the oalanra light and unfinished sorts, totalling 11,600. the record for the season. The export buyers were operating villi more caution, in view of the strike at Home, and the heavy shipments that are being made during May, and the consequence was that prices were easier by fully Is. p?r head, as compared with last week. The decline affected all classes of lambs, and was more marked towards the end of the sole. A few owners were not prepared to accept, the lower prices, and their lambs wcr.2 passed in. Tegs made 17s. to 195.; a few extra.,' to 20s. 2d.; average freezing weights, 145. to 16s. 6d.; and light and unfinished, ,11s, 6d. to 13s. 9d.
The 'yarding of fat sheen was a very large one, mid included a. fair proportion of good to prime lines of wethers. Among the" ewes the proportion of prime lots was comparatively small. The market at the openins was samewhat of a reflection of the fat.lamb sals, the export buyers not operating so freely, and prices cased off fully Is. per head, as compared with the previous week. Later on, competition became brisker on account of a, speculative element coming in, and values recovered to almost last week's level. The sale warlate in starting, owing to the number of fat lambs \p be disposed of. and (lid not conclude till 6.30 p.m. Tha range of prices was:—Extra nrime wethers, to 2-3s. 6d.; prime, IBs. to 2!5.; others, 15s. 9d. to 17s. 6d.; prime ewes, ISs. 6ri. to 19*. 6d.; others, 10s. to 145.; merino wethers, to 19s. 10d.; merino owes, 10s. lid. \ ■ The yarditig of fat cattle was of moderate dimensions, totalling !90, compared with 254 the previous week and 16b on May 15. The entries included some extra prime beef, but as usual there was a. considerable proportion of cow beef. Compared with the sale held a week earlier, the market was much brighter, and nrices ail round were better. Ikof realised 235. 6d. to 265.; extra, to 295. per ICCIb. Steers changed hands at £6 Us. 6d. to £12 7;. 6d.: extra, to £13 55.; heifers, £4 15s. to £3.175. 6d.; and cows. £5 to £10 17s. 6d.; extra, to £11 12s. 61 The yarding of store cattle was an extremely small one, being limited to about 35 head. The demand for all classes was weak. Three-year heifers made £4 IBs. 6d.; dry cows, 31s. to £3 17s. 6d.; and dairy cows, £6 to £10 17s. 6d. > There was a good yarding of fat pigs, and a fair all-round demand, although baconers were not as keenly sought after as on May 22. Chopper.: realised £3 to £5 155.; heavy baconers, 655. to 755.; and iigbter sorts, 50s. to 605., equal to sd. to 5Jd. per lb. Heavy porkers made 425. 6d. so 475. £d., and lighter sort?, 355. to 405., equivalent to sjd. ner lb. Stores were in medium supply, but the demand was scarcely as good as the previous week, no outside huycrs being present. The best class made 28s. to 345., and m?dium sorts, 14s. to 2C-5. Small wenners made 7». to 10s., and larger sorts to 13s. BUimsiDE MARKET. Dunodin, May 29. Vardings at TSurnsido to-day taken all round constituted a record, every available pen being utilised. The sale was not finished by d;irk, notwithstanding the fact that fat cattle and lambs were sold simultaneously. Fat cattle: 31R yarded, comprising a fair number of well-finished bullocks and heifers, and a few pens of exceptionally heavy prime oxen, the balance being medium !o inferior. Prices nil round were slightly lowar than last week. Prime bullocks, £1< to £13; extra, to £18 7s. 6d.: good, £10 to' £11; medium. £8 to £5; best heifers. £7 ss. lo £9; medium, £6 to £7; inferior. £4 to £5. Fat sheep: 500 penned, comprising all descriptions from extra prime to very inferior, the greater proportion being ewes. There was good demand fov a|| wethers at. a slight reduction on last week's prices, hut owes showed a drop of Is. to 2s. per head. Prime wethers, 21s. to 235.; extra show sheen, to 415.; good' 18s. to 20s.;' medium, 15s. 6d. to 175.; nrime' ewes, 15s. 6d. to 17c; extra, to 295.; good, 14s. to 155.; inferior. 7s. to 9=. Fat lambs: 3790 penned. There was n. small proportion of fair to good qualit'but ihe majority were onlv medium All well-finished lambs were well competed for sit. last week's nrices. but medium and inferior were slighliy lower.
