PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
G — (By Teleijraph.-Sneclnl Correspondent.) Palmerston, May 29. As Lieut.-General Baden-Powell passed through Palmerston to-day lie was met at the station by the Hon. A. M. Myers (Minister for Defence) and the Mavor of Pahner(don (Mr. J. A. Nash) mid others. As tlio General left the carriage the Mayor called for threo cheers, the gathering responding heartily. Mr. C. W. Naylor, who hiis been organist nt St. Andrew's Church for several years, lies resigned that position, and has been appointed organist of All Saints' Anglican Church. A bazaar -in aid of the funds rf St. Peter's Church, Terrace End, was opened last evening. Dolegates'attonding the Farmers' Union Conference, yesterday afternoon visited tlio local museum, and were interested in the collection of grasses, weeds, etc., lent to tlio Philosophical Society by Mr. T. W. Kirk. The visitors wero received by the president of the Philosophical Society, Mr. R. Gardiner, and other members.' -Mr. J. G. Wilson, president of the Farmers' Union, expressed the thanks of the visitors. At a meeting of tile Palmerston StarrIJowkett Society Inst, night, Mr. P. W. Dixon drew tho right marble. Ho receives .£3OO without, interest. Impromptu speeches were the business of the Palmerston Debating Society at its regular meeting last night. A" larjjo range of subjects was discussed, Mr. T. R. lioddcr acting as judge.
