Would you think £2 a year a large sum to spend on books and reading and intellectual pleasure? Is not &2 a year a small sum for a man to devote to the education and mental improvement of himself and his children? Is £2 a year an unreasonable amount to lay out in an investment which promises early and good returns? Can you afford to spend the £2 a year which covers all these matters—or rather can you afford not to spend it? You will certainly admit that £2 a year is no more, and probably less, than you care to spend on such good grounds. You will admit also that the new Encyclopaedia Britannica, published by the University o! • Cambridge, is a perennial feast of the best reading, a magnificent instrument of home education, and a good ' : investment. Have you realised that, at its present minimum price of £"22 19s. 2d., its cost to you is no more than £2 a year ? Look at this purchase as a purely business proposition. The estimate we put on its life is shown by the fact that the University of Cambridge —which owns the copyright in all countries subscribing to the Berne Convention—has guaranteed that no further edition shall be issued before 1925 at soonest. Even if the 12th edition is then produced, this gives the present edition a life of 13 years, during which it will remain the only work of its kind in the English-speaking world. Even if- you then scrap the work, you will have had 13 years use of it.
