Preaching at a military service at the Anglican Cathedral at Goulbura, Archdeacon Bartlett read an extract from a Sydney paper, declaring that tho spirit of the so-called Empire Day was absolutely intolerable to any Australian who had a spark of manhood in him, and that to tho true Australian the Empire Day ceiebrator was a sycophant, spineless, and countryless. Archdeacon Bartlett hurled back tho insulting words, which, he said, would only make Australians more patriotic. He emphasised his protest by throwing th). offending paper from the pulpit.
