Hector Observatory, Wellington.—The position of the Hector Observatory is na Latitude. 41deg. 17min. 3.76«ec. South. Longitude, 11 hours 39min. 4.27 5 cc. East, of Greenwich. Height, above 1909 mean sea level, 418 feet. Chronometer Eating Notice.—At 1 P : m. to-day a galvanometer ugnal for rating chronometers will be cent from the Observatory to tho Public Telegraph Office Mid to the Dominion Museum. The needle, will move at 1 p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard mean time, when a chronometer L-et to Greenwich mean time should show 13 hours 30inin. Any difference will be the error of tho chronometer on Greenwich rncja time. At 9 p.m. correct time will also be signalled from the Observatory by means of electric lights. A green lteht will be switched on at about 5.45 p.m., a red one at about 8.55 p.m.. and a white one at about 8.59 p.m., and nil lights will be switched off at 9 p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard mean time. Tbe preparatory switching on of the lights must'be considered as only approximately correct, and must not be used for rating chronometer?.
