THE CONFERENCE. The conference of the Federation of Labour resumed yesterday, Mr. P. C. Webb presiding It was decided to refer all Tcmits dealing with constitution and rules to the committee set up to remodel the constituUnon the recommendation of the Standing Orders Committee the following three remits from the Lyttelton Stevedores' Trade- Union were adopted:— lhat this conference condemn the action of the Government in allowing an muitsrial union tho right of a close corporation, the said union being directly connected with the Railway Department, thereby debarring legitimate workers the right to a fair living"; "that tnc Minister for Murine be approached with a view of havine the following clause in-s»i-l-cd in the Harbour Initiations: lhat it'slinll V>e lawful for nil vessels to carry a uet the length and breadth of the hatch, so as to prevent men foiling below when putting on or removing hatches ; "that strong representation bo made io tho Government with a view ol having inspectors appointed for the purpose of inspecting all cargo gear abonrci vessels engaged in the New Zealand trade. It was moved.by Mr. Jt. \ oyr.p, secnnded bv Mr. A. Unsser, and carried:— "TW the Coroners' Act, 1008, on.lifs aniendnionts bo amended by providing that in the ca«e of death by accident it •.hall be compulsory for the coroner to have the. inquest 'taken by juries who linvi' a practical knowledge of the mdnstrv in which (he accident occurred.
