THE WEATHER.
SUMMARY AND FORECAST. Present indications are for cloudy and misty weather, with rain, in mostparte , of the country, especially northward of Hokitika and Kaikoura. Increasing northerly and easterly to south-easterly winds ar2 probable generally. The barometer has a falling tendency everywhere. ~ The- barometer has continued above norma', but has been very unsteady. Saturday and Sunday proved milder, and cloudy in the north, but cool and changeable conditions have ruled in the south. Bain fell in the north on Sunday night and to-day, and cloudy weather now predominates. Easterly gales were reported in parts today. D. C. BATES. Meteorological Office, 'Wellington, May 27, 1912. Palmerston, May 27—Light frost, followed by fine i day. Otaki, May 27.-Fine, but dull. Featherston, May 27.—Fine, with passing clouds. Itasterton, May 27.—A succession of frosts have been experienced, and these will have a, hardening effect upon the pastures. Today the weather is cloudy, with indications of a change. Hastings, May' : 27.—Du1l morning; fine day; mild temperature. Shannon, May 27.—Fine and mild weather. Carterton, May 27.—Fine weather prevails. There was no frost this morning.
