THE PLAY ON SATURDAY. SENIOR RESULTS. Ideal weather and fast grounds were tho lot of tho hockey players on Saturday, and in the senior competitions dor-e contests were witnessed, the results being:— Karon 5 Government Life 3 Wesley 0 Wellington 0 Vic. College ... 4 Metropolitan ... 3 WESLEY-WELLINGTON. Played on No. !i ground, Day's Bay, this game was very oven all through. Prom tho bully' Wesley went away and wore sent back. Then the Dark Blues chased down tho field and lliillis shot what, appe-ai'i'd !i> be a fair goal, but. was ruled nlf-side, Wesley still attacked and Morrah had to concede a penalty corner which was resnitless. Then Wellington hit up-field, but weak hitting and faulty fielding of the ball prevented much progress. Tho Light Buses attacked strongly again and K. Strack (playing on the right wing) sent in some beautiful centres which were not accepted. Birch alone, in the forwards, shawing good hockey. Again Wellington entered tho scoring arena, but Hatch proved equal to the attack. Paul sent in a good shot which was ruled off-side. The Wellington forwards seemed to lack dash and initiative, with the result that Wesley hopped in on several occasions and turned defence into attack. Half-time was called with no score. On resuming Wesley rushed the circle, hut Morpeth sired beautifully twice. Then Wellington set up a hot attack in tho circle, but the players could not shoot, straight, Morpeth left his goal and Ilollis (inside left) took shelter between the pests. But tho change did not mend matters. Wellington kept pressing, but their left wing was weak and Wesley drove them back. So tho play was up and clown, with neither advantage to either side, and time was called with no goals registered. Mr, Gendall was referee.

KARORI—GOVERNMENT LIFE. It was expected that Karori's win would bo very decisive, but tho score shows that such was not the case. Karori were without the services of Claude Campbell, and this in itself made a great differ, ence. Day's Bay No, 1 ground was good for hockey and from the start of the game lvarori swooped down into the scoring arena, and after a few mishaps Loader made no mistake in registering a goal. (1— 0). This livened the Government Life up, and thoy played vigorously from the "bully," but Karori were strong, and t!»iy went towards the goalmouth again, where Murphy made the scorc rend 2—o. Karori now seemed to rest on their laurels, and Government Life, making up, suddenly set up an attack which Slurrock capped off with a fine shot. This goal "egged" them on to further efforts, and from a corner hit Caldicutt brought the scores even with a stinging shot. Half-time, and two all. Play was dull for a few minutes on resuming, but the Blacks were now more determined, and as the result of a fierce onslaught, G. Da vies sent a hot one in, only to bo followed by Murphy n few minutes later, and the, score now rcad, Karori L Government Live 2. Government Life again livened up, and with a commendable piece of passing. Caldicutt sent in his second goal. Karori now realised that their margin was not so great, and they settled down a little more strenuously, resulting in G. Davics making the score, Karori S, Government Life 3. Prom now on Karori held the upper hand, and kent attacking till time went. Mr. M. Luckic carried tho whistle. VICTORIA COLLEGE-METRO-POLITAN. Karori No. 5 ground was the scene of this contcst, and tho College score should have been greater. Metropolitan were reinforced by Baker's presence—and what a strength lie was. But for him Metropolitan would have been lost. For the first half the College forwards took control of the game, and it was not (ill the second speli that the Reds livened nn. College opened the proceedings by rushing into the Reds' twenty-live, where a Metropolitan back gave "sticks." From She resulting hit Beere sent in a shot, and a few minutes later Griffiths finished up o fine forward swoon by finding tho net. College 2, Metropolitan 0. Tho reverseawakened the MetropoliUi.n up, and Muldaon (who played finely throughout) shot the ball to Ingram, who found the goal. Half-time, and the score 2—l in College's favour. On resuming. Metropolitan infused much more dash into their play, and frequently stormed the citadel, but (rase and Morris proved good defenders. Then the College collected themselves, and n. fine rush, from which a corner resulted, ended in Bce.re sending in a warm shot. Still the College pressed on, and Beere brought the tally up to four. The Reds now woke v.v> in earnest, and W. Muldoon. by fine efforts, sent in two good shots, and time was called, leaving Colle?e thn winners by 4—3. Mr. C'ockrell controlled the game. JUNIOR HOCKEY.
