CHELTENHAM DAIRY CO.

HOME SEPARATION ADOPTED, Tho suppliers of the Cheltenham Dairy Company held a'meeting of some importance last week for the purpose of considering the position of the company and to decide as to the future course of operations. The chairman, Mr. Bruce, explained that recently an olYer had been made for the company's plant, and at a. meeting of shareholders it had been decided, to soli. Subsequent developments showed, however, that in order to dispose of the properly the company would have, to go ihto voluntary liquidation if the full value could not be obtained. This would •meair ths'giving of .£700(1 worth of property for ,£IOOO. A further mooting of the 'shareholders, held to reconsider the position, in view of the-legal difficulties, decided that it would be unwise to sell, morerparticularly in view of the fact of a prospective substantial increase in the number of shareholders for next season. The speaker suggested home separation as likely to prove remunerative to the company, stating that it would mean an increase of from id. to jd. per lb for butter fat on the price now obtained, which meant a great deal to the suppliers. The secretary. (Mr. Fisher) also mnde - a ■ statement in reference to the financial aspect, stating, that separation at present ivas costing too much, ,_tho expense attendant on work at the' creameries being a serious item. At the Beaconsfield creamery the cost worked out at id. per. lb. for butterfat, ' -jd... for Kiwitea, 11-lGd. for Kewa. I{. for Valley Road, and U. for Waiata.. This, expense would be done away witli by home separation, and greater profits' would accruo to tho farmer. , After considerable discussion, it was decided not to sell, bat to continue operations as a co-operative concern,' under the home separation scheme.
