Word has been received by cable that Mr. Duncan Stout, son of Sir Holwrt Stout, has passed the examination which onlillcs him tn the degree of Fellow of the lioy.al Coliojjo of Surgeons, England. ICx-Mcmhcrs of thn old Wellington Highland Killes will tender a complimentary dinner lo Lieutenant-Colonel' C. D, Macintosh (who formerly commanded Ihe company before being promoted to the battalion sUilf) at the Hotel Windsor on Wednesday evening. A cable message received in Dunedin by the Congregational Union of New Zealand from Dr. Bedford Hooko, secretary of tlio Congregational Society, London, states that tile liev. John William Ashford, of Abergavenny, Monmouth, has accepted the pastorate of the St. Clair Congregational Church, Dunedin. Mr. Ashford was at ono time assistant to the Rev, J. M'Lune ['(Ten at Dorchester, and it was on Mr. t'fVeu's strong recommendation that an invitation by cablegrain was sent to him. Jle is expected to leave for Now Zealand within the next month.
a Oaptain Alfred Waters, of Clovedon, j who has recently been appointed New Zealand organiser and secretary for the Overseas Club, was the recipient on y Saturday of a handsome presentation sent S out from the headquarters of the club y mi London. Lord Islington, who is prey Mclent: of the club in New Zealand, made the presentation at Government House, ' Auckland. It was in {ho form of a handsome silver bor for cigars and eigary ettes bearing the following inscription.v ''Captain Alfred Waters, from a few of Ins fellow members of Overseas Club as a souvenir of his having enrolled through his- personal efforts"iOOO mombors. March 12, 1912." Lord Islington warmly complimented Captain Waters 011 the success with which his energetic efforts on bebali' of the club had been attended.
