TREATING SEED POTATOES.
A WARNING REGARDING FORMALIN. On several occasions the Agricultural Gazette of New South Wales juis recommended Hint seed potatoes Ije treated with formalin to prevent the development of scab and other diseases in the crop. This last season the potatoes at Dathiirst Kxperiiueut Farm which were treated in this way were practically a failure, whilst plots of untreated seed germinated well. It seems clear, says the Hay is'iio of the' Gazette, that, under some conditions at leasl, formalin has a very bad clfect upon the germination of potatoes. Experiments nro now being conducted with solutions of different strength;, and other remedies are also being tested. Meanwhile this warning is issued for the benefit of potatogrowers, who are advised to be cautious in using formalin.
