VETERANS , GATHERING.
A festive gathering of war veterans was held in the Masonic Hull, Daniel Street, last evening. There were a fair number of Maori war veterans present, beside Crimean, Zululand, and other old soldiers. Songs were Riven, speeches made, and toasts honoured, As the years slide by the Maori war veterans become fewer <uid fewer, but it was noticeable that among those assembled last night many looked as though they would see numbers of years to come. The chair was taken by Mr. Tiugey, who proposed the toast of "The Kin»." 'The Veterans" was proposed by Sir. fleorca and responded to by Messrs. G. Purdy and J. W. Ecvell. Other toasts were:— "Visitors," by Captain Johnston, Tesponded to by Mr. Knat>p; "Entertainer' " proposed by the Tiov. Mr. Bates, and "The Press." .Messrs. H. Walton, Dalrymple, 'Fo.t, Tingey, O'lCey, and others contributed to the evening's programme. __^^_^^^__^_
