Tho Wanganui Eiver Trust is still exercised over its powers of leasing its endowment lands, notwithstanding an assurance by tho Undersecretary t'orJUnds that tho Public Reserves and Domains Amendment Act, 1911, gives it the'necessary authority. The solicitor to the Trust advises that the Act doe 3 not give tho powers sought for, and that the leases can only be issued by tho Goveraor-in-Council, and without any right of renewal as desired. The matter was considered at a meeting of the Trust yesterday, when tho chairman (Mr. T. D. Cummins) and Jlr. Veitch, H.P., were again appointed to interview the Undersecretary with a view to having an empowering Bill prepared for submission to Parliament. About three years ago a scheme of drainage, at au estimated cost of ,£IGS4, was prepared for Aramoho, but its construction was deferred. Meanwhile the suburb has grown: rapidly, and the borough engineer, considering that an amplified scheme is necessary to meet existing and future demands, has designed one to cost .£7845. The scheme was discussed at a special meeting of the Wanganui Borough Council last night, when it was considered that the engineer's view of tho matter was the right one, though the money in hand wis inadequate to undertake it. It was resolved to place the matter before a meeting of the Aramoho ratepayers with a view to ascertain if they were willing to sanction an increase of the loan which has already been raised for the purpose.
