The accused were found gniily and sentence'.! each to nine months' imprisonment ill the second division. (Hoc. May 23, 11 p.m.) London, May 23. The jury strongly recommended the Suffragettes to mercy. Mr. .Tustiee Coleridge, in sentencing the prisoners, snid that if they had observed contrition or had made a disavowal of the acts committed, he would have been disposed to accord tlieni first division treatment. Mr. Pethick Lawrence and Mrs. Parikh.urst were ordered to pay the costs of tho prosecution. After sentence' had .been pronounced the women in court leapt to their feet, crying, "Shame!" A procession passed the dock, shaking hands with tho prisoners, who went to the cells amid cries of "Keep tho flag fly.' ing!" MILITANT CAMPAIGN IN CHICAGO. New York, May 22. Chicago Suffragists are planning a militant campaign on the lines of those followed iu. England. The leaders of the movement contend that unless newspaper publicity is secured in a sensational manner no notice will be. taken by tho general public of the aims of tho movement.
