SUMMARY AND FORECAST. Present indications arc for strong south erly and south-easterly winds, squally at times, in most parts of the country, with cold and chanceable weather, heavy showers probable on the East Coast especially. Frosts are to be expected inland at night. The barometer is> unsteady, but is due to rise in the couth. There is a falling tendency in the north, but little movement indicated at present. The winds have veered to southerly and south-easterly, and increased in force. The weather has been cold and unsettled in most parts of the country. Hastings, May Z3.-Fro?ty morning, followed by cold, bleak day.
