I The dangerous practice of receiving and dispatching trains from the outer line of rails at the Hastings railway station would have resulted in a terrible accident this morning but for the courageous action of a porter, Mr. Gordon. A female passenger from Hastings (o Palmerstou crossed the line and boarded the train for Napier. On being; told of her mistake, she stepped backwards, right in front, of Hie Na-pier-Wellington express. Mr. Gordon, seeing Hie woman's great danger, jumped with barely four yards to spare in front, of the. incoming train, and, carrying the woman with him across the line, naved her life.
