FROZEN-MEAT MATTERS.

SHirriNG FROZEN EWES. Various criticisms have been made for many years past, says Ihe Iximlon correspondent of the 'i'astoralists' Review," on the policy of New Zealand exporters in shipping frozen ewes. Persons doing a trade connected with the best class of meat complain that large numbers of owes sent over lower (lie stains of New Zealand meat and depress prices. But tho general opinion seems to be that, if not young, and likely therefore to interfere with breeding, frozen ewes fill a useful department of shipment, providing an article which is appreciated by many sections of tiio trade. There are records of ewes being sent forward from tho Dominion as early as ISB3.

The same correspondent, dealing with the seasonal character of Australasian frozen shipments as against tho Argentine's month by month shipments, says it is hardly necessary to reiterate tho oftmade statement that old customers are repeatedly driven on to Argentine mutton owing to tho absence of New Zealand. I may just mention a case, adds the writer. Some years ago a large general store in a good part of London decided to add a meat, section, and New Zealand mutton and Inmb were taken in largo volume. But for the last few years, the company sit times failed to get supplies of mutton, and reluctantly took up Argentino moat. This they found on hand all the year round, and of good quality, and now they deal exclusively with South American people. This shop used to take New Zealand lambs, occasionally Australian; now they buy Argentine lambs. This store will not change back, oven if New Zealand meat were of tetter quality, because it is awkward to disturb trade arrangements.
