MARLBOROUGH FARMERS' UNION.
ANNUAL MEETING. The report presented at the annual meeting of the Marlborough branch of the Farmers' Union stated that tho membership roll contained 101 names. This, however;.,the committee• did,-not:'consider was large enough for such a'district, and it wa's pointed out that'the present was an opportune time for appointing a real live organiser to assist in placing tho union in the strongest position possible. Without doubt, the report added, the undivided strength of the farming'commnnity will be required to. protect, this important industry, which is responsible for 80 per cent, of tho exports ot this country, besides producing sufficient to sustain tho million of people here. The only way for the farmers to protect their interests is to put all petty differences aside, and keenly organise for their mutual protection. Farmers, the report added, owed themselves a duty, and that was the protection of their great and increasing industry, and this protection lay only in organisation.
