Mr. "Highden's" horse Blakeney was sold to Mr. Beales/ It is understood the price paid was ,£350. NOTES AND COMMENTS. D3t Glexcoe.l To-morrow week E. J. Mason will ship half a dozen horses to Sydney in charge of H. Telford, who will attend to them until the arrival of Mason, himself, .who will journey across a fortnight later. Pallisade, who figures in the Stewards' Handicap at Oamaru to-day, was priced recently by a southern buyer, but, at 400 guineas, no business resulted. Handicapper J. E. Henrys, who has been in ill-health for. some time past, spent last week recruiting at Banmer. He i'ourneyed on to Oamaru yesterday, where 16 is to adjust tho weights. F. D. Jones went as far as Christchurch on tho way to attend the Oainary. meeting, but there he received a telegram offering him fonr rides at Wanganui. As he had only a single mount at the southern meeting, he returned to Wanganui.
Bandiera was taken from Riccarton to Oamaru yesterday, and will be a runner there on -the second day of the meeting. The Oamaru Cup, of 200 sovs., will bo the principal event at the North Otogo meeting, which opens to-day. Local interest will be centred in the doings of Dearest, who has been sent south specially for this race. When at her best tho fnllsister to Master Soult is a good usefid performer, and, as tho going is likely to suit her (being firm), she will no doubt give a good account of herself. Other Wellington-trained horses engaged at the Oamaru meeting are Mount Victoria, who has been winning everywhere of late, and Bluo Lake, who has a similar record. The latter is now regarded as a suro starter in the concluding ev.}ut. * Tho three horses named will bo ridden by S. Eeid, who has the wonderful record of paying a dividend each, time he has ridden at tho last four meetings. Wooloomooloo is booked to leave for Auckland at tho close of the Wanganui fixture, in order to fulfil his engagement in the Great Northern Hurdles. He is fast coming back to his old form. Napper, who is due at Ellcrslie to-day, is to start in both Hurdles and Steeples next mouth. Waiputere has been doing exceptionally good work lately, and is being supported from tho right quarter for tho Great Northern Hurdles. ■ The crack Auckland horseman. B. Deeley, has now been engaged to rido Merrivonia in the Connolly Handicap at Wanganui this afternoon, and it. appears as if tho Trentham candidate will start favourite. Dorando, after competing at Wanganui, will bs sent north to contest the Great Northern Steeplechase at Ellerslie. It is understood that Antarctic has again been placed by a would-be buyer, and it is possible that the Salvadan goldiug may change hands in the course of the next few days.
Paisano, though shaping well in his training, is palpably above himself at present] and may be looked upon as likely to improve a great deal as the season progresses. "Weather prospects for the opening day of the Wanganui meeting nro excellent (telegraphs our correspondent), and the tracks are in capital order. In tho majority of the events the fields promise to be large, and interesting racing should be tho result. Golden Loop has been responsible for good track work recently, and has gained many admirers for tho Connolly Handicap. Word from Auckland slates that Presently is doing very well in his preparation for tho Great Northern Hurdles, and is one of the popular fancies in the north. Merrie'Lad should have plenty of support in Ihe Century Hurdles to-day. were it not for tho fact that he is troubled in the respiratory organs, and will, on that account, have difficulty in seeing the distance out. The Rover is looking in capital trim to commence his winter campaign, and will ship fit and well for tho big flat race at Wanganui. C. Pric9 will probably ride tho'Foxton hors* if he can do the weight. One of tho warmest favourites at tho Wanganui meeting this afternoon will bo Haittcre. in thVHaek Steeples. Tho Euroclydon horso comc-s from the north with a' good reputation. Another wellbacked horse will be Silver Cluse in the Kaitoke Hack Hurdle Race. FIXTURES. May 23 and 51—Wansanui .I.C. Winter.
