—* CANADA CONSIDERING THE EFFECT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Ottawa, May 21. The Canadian Government is considering the probable effect of the Panama Canal Bill now before the United States Congress. The prohibition affecting steamships owned by railroads is expected to gravely concern Canadian shipping. An investigation is being held, and a prompt protest will bo lodged at Washington if necessary. PANAMA BILL IN CONGRESS. (Rec. May 23,. 0.20 a.m.) Washington, May 22. • The House of Representatives by one hundred to ninety refused to .permit tho imposition of tolls on American vessels engaged in the coastwise trade nsing the Panama Canal. A sharp attack was made on the prohibition of rail Toad-owned vessels using the Canal.
