The need for the Sydney Barbour Trust to keep more vigilant in the matter of dredging in the harbour was strikingly cxr-nTplific-d on May 10. The incident, under notice occurred in Woolloomooloo Bay— usually regarded as safe water for tho deepest draught vessel—the steamer being the F.-H.-S. liner Kent,.-which had discharged a- quantity of cargo and was about to resume her passage to New Zealand ports. She was drawjng 24ft. 6in., when about to cast off from the wharf, yet although it is claimed there is 28ft. of water at the berth sho occupied, ths vessel was found to be hard and fast in the mud. As it was a soft bottom the vessel sult'ered no damage, the only trouble being the delay occasioned; still the incid?nt was bad enough for that reason, in view of her engagements, and suffices to show clearly that it would be as well for dredging to be done there at once to avoid a. repetition of the affair. The Kent is due at Wellington from Auckland on Monday, May 27. BARQUE DON'S VOYAGE. Although the Norwegian barque Don made a long passage of fully six months from Gc'fc (Sweden) to Dunedin, the voyage was quite uneventful, fine weather beiug experienced most of th 2 time, with light, ba.ifiing winds and occasional gales. The vessel put into Hobart a fortnight ago last Sunday for provision?, ana after a stay of two days resumed her voyage. The last stage of the journey occupied 10 days from Hobart. She met with light northerly winds until Hearing the coast, when she picked up a. southerly breeze, which carried her to Taiaroa- Heads on Friday night. The Don had about one million feet of Baltic, pins on board, portion of which is for Lyttclton, asd is consigned to the sgeucy of Hogg and C-o. BANGATIRA ARRIVED HOME.
