LABOUR FEDERATION.
$ : COMING CONFERENCE. MAINLY WATERSIDE BUSINESS. The N.Z. Federation of Labour is to hold its first general conference at the office of the "Maoriland Worker," Victoria Street, on Thursday next! The members of the executive, including Mr. JJ. Semple, who returned from Sydney on ■Wednesday, are at present in town, and will meet to-day to arrange preliminaries, and possibly to discuss the position at Waihi. Tho only body of workers connected with the federation is the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union, which has given notice of the following motions: Waterside Remits, "That it be an instruction to the delegates at. conference to devise ways and means to amalgamate the various forces of labour, as it is against the interests of tho workers to be divided. "That the Oiorernincnt be asked to allow the Telegraph Department to telephone all telegraphic shipping notices of the arrivals and departures of vessels to the waterside workers' waiting-rooms. "That compensation fcr accident start from day of accident, and that the Compensation Act be amended so that payment be made seven days after the accident has takcin place, and further, that al! medical fees be paid by employers. "That a uniform objective, and a uniform entrance fee be adopted by all unions in the Federation of Labour. "That a uniform clearance certificate be adopted by the federation.
