! (By Telocrsph—Press Association.! 4 MINING PACT. THAMES OWNERS AND MEN*. Thames, May IS. An industrial agreement between the mine-owners and the Thames Miners' Union has been definitely arranged. General conditions and hours of labour are tho Mine as in the old award, with a special clause added providing that, in contracting, where.the whole of the contractors are co-partners and 110 wages mtiii are employed, no percentage is to be kept back for a longer period than a month. The
only recognised holidays are from Christmas Day to .January .1, inclusive. The Miners' Union day schedule of wages as agreed on shows an all-round increase over the old award, mul is an increase on the existing AYaihi agreement. 'l'he matter was arranged at a friendly conference between representatives of the miners and the companies. MR. CADWALLADER'S DEATH. Carterton, May 18. At the inquest concerning the death cf Owen Arthur Cadwnlladc-r, a verdict was returned that deceased met his death through shock and burns, sustained in a motor-car accident. This verdict was in accordance with the medical evidence. MAUD LYNCH'S ACT. Auckland, May 18. Maud Lynch, a.°ed 31 years, left her home last night, ieaving a note pinned to the clothing of her two weeks' old child that her body would bo fouiid in the harbour. She stated she was half distracted with worry, and could not bear to live any longer. Her nat and coat irtre found aboard a ferry steamer late last night. Tile .husband ran suggest no motive.. He says they were on the best, of terms, INQUEST AND A CHARGE. Christchurch, May 19. An inquest touching the death of itartha Elizabeth Henderson, a married woman, was held at ICaiapoi to-day. Evidcnco was given that an instrument had been used. The inquiry was adjourned.' Bridget Chalk, who was charged with having, by unlawful act, caused the death, was, at Detective Gibson's request, remanded till Friday. i MINISTERS TOURING. Blenheim, May 18. | The Hon. H. G. Ell and the Jb>n. J. Colvin are at Blenheim to-day. Mr. Ell arrived from Nelson. Ho received deputations regarding a new post office, and is going on to Wellington this evening. Mr. Colvin will attend the Havelock Dairy Factory opening, and a banquet to-night. Ho will also inspect the Wakaraarina goldfields. NEW CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Eltham, May 18. A well-attonded meeting of commercial men decided to establish an Eltham Chamber of Commerce for the promotion and protection of the commercial interests of the town and district.
