SATISFACTORY VEGETABLE SUPPLIES. Supplies of all line.s of vegetables with the exception of cauliflowers, freiich beans and green peas have teen'well up to requirements at the Allen and Blair Street markets during the week, aiid values have ruled at a normal level. A small consignment of fruit arrived from Australia by the Jloeraki on Wednesday. Sydney lemons sold at 10s. to 12s. per ease, rough pineapples 7s. to 10s., and smooth pines 10s. to lis. Mandarins in packer cases were in bad order, and averaged ss. to fis. Good l'ruit packed in gin cases quitted at 10s. to lSs. (id. Pie-melons, ex the same steamer, sold at 4d. to Is. (id. each, ilildura lemons, ex the Jlaungamii, sold yesterday morning at 20s. to 235. per case. They were choice fruit and in excellent condition. Apples from local districts aro fairly plentiful, cookers selling at 4s. to sk. per case, and dessert sorts such as Jonathous and Doherty's at 6s. to 95., according to sample. The demand for Island oranges is still very poor, ninc-inch cases selling from 3s. to 4s. Gd. There is a fair delliand for Canterbury pears, choice samples of Winter Nelis and Winter Cole s quitting yesterday at Bs. to 10.s. Cook* ing pears are worth from 4s. to ss. I lie only grapes available now aro from the Lower Hutt, and theso aro bringing from 9(1. to lid. per lb. Cape gooseberries aro still available, the bulk selling at 'id. to •4!d. lb. Outdoor-grown tomatoes are almost over for the season. Lxtra choice, well-coloured samples, aro worth from ss. to "s., and others bring '-'s. Gd. to 4s. Cucumbers in half-cases sell from -Is. to
are in heavy supply, best descriptions fetching Is. to 2s. per sack, and other sorts 6d. to Is. Gd. Choico white cauliflowers are ill good demand at trom 7s. to Us. per sack. Heavy supplies of beet are available at 2s'. to 2s. Gd. per sack. Only very small consignments et 'freuch beans are coming forward, halfcases being worth 10s. to Ins. Parsnips are in fair demand at Is. to ss. per sack. Carrots are in heavy supply, the ruling rate being 2s. (id. to 3s. (id. per sack. Swedes meet with a ready sale at Ls. to 3s. per cwt. Extra choice let! vce sola yesterday at from -Is. to Gs. per rase, and inferior sorts made 2s. to 3s. Celery is in good demand, choice white realising 4s. to ss. per dozen, and inferior 2s. to 3s. The market is well stocked with pumpkins, ordinary samples quitting at 2s. Gd. to 3s. Gd. per sack. Vegetable marrows are . worth 2s. to 3s. pm- km*. Onions bring 10s. to 10s. Gd. per cwt. The inor- ! ket is fairly well supplied with southern potatoes, and samples free from blight realise 'from 10s. to 13s. per sack. Artichokes command 3s. to 4s. per half-sack.
