Charts, etc., affected: Admiralty Chart No. 1896; "New Zealand Pilot," eighth edition, 1903. Chapter ii, page 40. Re Uncharted Rock off Trio Islands, approaching Admiralty Bay, Cook Strait.— Referring to notice to mariners No. 28 of 1912, re the reported uncharted rock off Francis Head, approaching Admiralty Bay, Captain Bollons, of the Government steamer liinetnoa, reports that he has searched for this rock, and took lines of sound* ings with the vessel and boats, but could not find shallow, water or any indication of shallow water in or close to the position stated in tb3 above-mentioned notice. He anchored over this position, and found 32 fathom?, grey soft mud. A rocks exists nearer the southern Trio Islands, and about U miles from Clay Point. This rock dries at low-water spring, and is the outer rock of a ridgy roof which, juts out from the southern Trio Islot, several pinnacles of which aro dry at low-water springs. The rock lies 4} cables S. 70deg. 13. (true) or S. 23deg. E. (magnetic) from the eouth end of the southern Trio. The cargo steamer Hohenfels, which arrived. at Melbourne from New Ys?k on May 3, had an exciting time for a couple of days. On April 17, when in the vicinity of tlw Kergusicn Islands, the vessel encountered a hurricane, and while it lasted Captain T. J. Schiuitz and his crew had an anxious time. Although a big vessel of 6329 tonp, and fully laden with cargo, the Hohenfels was tossed about like a cork. Heavy seas thunfarod on board, washing away everything on dock that was not securely la«hed.
A bis sea smashed several doorways, and flooded a number of compartments. Several sailors had narrow i!Eer,]«?. but fortunately no one was Furiously injured. After the Bale had raged for about 40 hour? conditions began to moderate, and the remainder of the voyage was mart-' under favourable conditions.

Cable advice received from Suva, lust evening states that the Union Company's steamer Haaroto cleared for Auckland yesterday. She is due at tho northern port on Monday, and at Wellington on Thursday, May 23.
An arrival at Otago Heads from Gcflc, Sweden, at 5 p.m. yesterday was the Norwegian barque Don. The saiier left the Baltic port last November, and upon completion of part discharge of hor cargo of pino at Dunedin, comes up to Lyttelton.
. Tho Union Company's steamer Aparima is to load at Cardiff (Wales) shortly for Calcutta, via. Colombo, where she will take the July loading for New Zealand ports.
According to latest reports, the American barquenUne Makawsli, which arrived at Astoria on April 1 from Lyttelton, was ordered to proceed to Gray's Harbour to load a full cargo of Oregon pine for New Zealand. Up to the present, however, her destination has not been announced.
This morning the Government steamer nincmoa will leave Lyttelton for AKn.roa Lighthouse. En route, a call will be made at Godley Head for tho purpose of landing stores for tho light tlsorc.
An arrival in port from Port Chalmers eariy yesterday morning was tho F.-H.-8. steamer Surrey. Whilst at the latter port the steamer was docked for the purpose of having a, dented plate repaired. Tho insulation in ono of the fore-holds was damaged by leakage, and this is now being attended to. Mr, 0. Rose and a gijng of carpenters are engaged in the work. After taking in what cargo is offering at Wellington, the Surrey will proceed to Picton on Monday for further Home cargo. Cable advice received by the local agents for the New Zealond Shipping Company announces the arrival at London of the Otnki on May 15, from Wellington. In continuation of her journey from Greymouth -to Wellington, the Mapourika, arrived at Westport at 8 a.m. yesterday. She sailed for Nelson at 7 p.m., and is dun at Wellington between 4 and 5 o'clock this afternoon, At daybreak to-day the Rotoiti wa,s to have left Onehunga for New Plymouth and Wellington. She is due in port on Sunday, and leaves on tho return trip on Monday. As on previous occasions, the nui was a full ship when she left Wellington for Sydnay last evening. Many intending passengers were unable to obtain berths.
