MOTOR ACCIDENT.
ON THE EVANS BAY fiQAO. TWO CARS BADLY INJURED. ' A serious motor-car accident occurred at about S p.m. on Wednesday, when Mr. J. I'. Luke's motor-car, driven by Mr. 11. A. Luke, with Mr. .1. ]'. Luke and Captain Hobb (of tho Weslport Coal Company's service) as passengers, collided on tho corner of one. of tho bonds of tbr> Evans Bay Koad between the I'atent Slip and Point Jomingham with one of Messrs. Lyons' taxi-cabs, with two passengers. Mr. Luke's car was boiug driven from tho slip when the taxicab came- round the corner, and struck the eai' almost at right angles. The collision was so violent that the occupants of both cars were hurled out on to the road, fortunately in most eases without serious hurt. Tho most serious injuries wore sustained by Mr. 11. A. Luke (driver of tho car), who sustained a strained back and was rather severely bruised and shaken. Mr. J. F. Luke had his thumb sprained, and tho taxi's passengers were severely shaken. The top, mud-shields, and part of tile tonneau ,of Mr. Luko's car wore badly smashed, and tho engine was injured. It is estimated that the necessary repairs will cost from MS lo £70. Tiie taxi-oab was also Wily knocked about, and will have to go into dock for repairs of a. pretty general character. Whatever may have b<wn the cause of (he present accident, it is timely perhaps to mention generally that far too many motor-ears and cycles take the bends of tho Evans Day Road without giving duo warning. In the case of a road with so ninny sharp turns, it is necessary to keep the horn in play almost the wliole of the time; otherwise disaster of an expensive character is likely to ensue.
