GENLL. SIR R. BADEN-POWELL.
WELCOMED IN SYDNEY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrlffht (Rec. May 16, 9.25 p.m.) Sydney, May 16, General Sir R. Baden-Powell, who arrived here to-day, received an enthusiastic welcome from a largo gathering. A guard of honour was provided by the Boy Scouts. Subsequently a civic reception was given him in the Town Hall. Replying to the toast of his health, ho said that Australia had set the rest of the Empire a grand example by its scheme of universal training, and already some of our friends who do not look ono straight in the face, because they have a bit of a squint when they ai'6 looking beyond their own confines, have got a watch on them. Australia had taken up the question of selfdefence in tho nick of time.
Sir Joseph Ward said he was glad, as a New Zealamler, to welcome Sir R. BadenPowell, who had done more for the Empire by the scout movement than by all 'his daring deeds.
