The Peninsular and Oriental Company is issuing new stock, as announced by the directors on May 2. The directors decided to offer .£1,160,000 of preferred cumulative 5 per cent, stock to the present holders of the company'a stocks at JillQ. A YOUNG BURGLAR, (Rec. May 16, 9.25 p.m.) Sydney, May 16. A youth named Talbot has been sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment in connection with the burglary episode at M'Cormack's, at North Sydney, on April 5. Andrew M'Cormack was locking up his house when he was confronted by a masked man, who presented a revolver at his head. M'Cormack knocked the revolver aside, and closed with the man. They struggled and wrestled, until M'Cormack's cries brought his brother on the scene, and between them thev disabled the intruder; and conveyed him to the police station. PLUCKY ATTEMPT AT RESCUE. Mr. Beby, Minister for Labour and Industry, accused Mr. Wade, Leader of tho Opposition, of public dishonesty in connection with a recent speech in which Mr. Wade attacked the Government's Land Act.
