Word has been received (states the "Sydney Commercial News and Shipping List") that the Norwegian bnrqu« Este, which arriv«d at Caldera on April 2 from Newcastle, after a long passage of 85 days, picked up an empty boat at sea 1 with the name "Mary Isabel," Sydney, painted on it. The boat was picked up on January 20 in latitude 34 south, longitude 176 east. It will be remembered that the Mary Isabel, which was a steel harquentine of 307 tons net, left Whangape on September 8 last year for Sydney, with a lull cargo of kauri and white pine, amounting in all to 284,681 ft., of which 52,697 ft. was stowed on deck. Soon aftor the Mary Isabel was towed to sea, a cyclone sprang up on the New Zealand coftßt, ana the vessel was never heard of again. No signs of wreckage were found on the New Zealand or Australian coasts. At an official inquiry at Sydney the Court found th?.t in all probability the vessel was lost in the bad weather prevailing at the time she was on passage, and that no blame couid bo imputed to anv one in connection with the loss of this flne Httls vessel.

Latest charters include the Danish barque Thora, 384 tons. She is to take a cargo of coal from Newcastle to Nelson, after having completed discharge of her cargo of timber at Sydney.

At 6 a.m. to-day the Tyser liner Nerehana is expected to clear Wellington for London. ,

The nome steamer Marcre leaves port for Napier this morning. She is due back here from Wanganui on June 6, and, after completing loading, will sail for London on June 8.

The Westport Coal Company's eollior Regulns, which has been undergoing cleaning ami painting on the Wellington Patent Slip, will be taken off this morning.

A large shipment of apples, comprising about 16,000 eases, was brought hv the Arawa from Hobort on Wednesday for transhipment to the Corinthis, whicli left Wellington. Tha fruit is destined for the houth American: market, and will be unshipped at Rio do Janeiro.

Ma.pourika, s.s., arrived at Greymouth. from Wellington, via way ports, at 7 a.m. yesterday, and left on the return trip at 8 p.m.

Noon to-day is the time appointed for the Union Company's steamer Haupiri to take her departure from Wellington for Picton, East Coast bays and ports, and Auckland. During the past week the Blenheim ba,r has been in a rather ba4 way. Both ths Opawa. and Blenheim have been unable to cross outwards for Wellington. It was intended to get the Opawa out on last nights tide, mid if the attempt was successful she will bo dispatched for Picton, with Blenheim cargo, at 11 p.m. to-day. Messrs. Johnston and Co,, local agents for the Manaroa, advise that ths steamer will make a special trio from Wellington to Havcloek to-day, returning on Sunday morning. The Government -steamer Hinemoa left Wellington yesterday for her periodical visit to southern lighthouses. When in Wellington he placed bis suggestions before the Minister for Marine, and expects a reply in the course of a few days. Meantime the Terra Nova will bo docked at Lyttciton tor overhaul. The F.-H.-S. liner Kent, which left Liverpoo! on March 12 for Wellington, via- Australian ports and Auckland, sailed from Newcastle in continuation of her voyage at 5 p.m. on Monday. --The vessel is expected hero on May 27. On Friday last the Typcr liner Muritai left London for Wellington, via. Australian ports, Auckland, and Napier. The vessel will probably reach Wellington about July 12. R.M.S. Tahiti is to leave Sydney for San Francisco, via Wellington, Rarntonga, and Papeete, on Saturday next. She should arrive here on Wednesday next.
