An extraordinary meeting of shareholders of the Eltham Co-operative Dairy Company confirmed resolutions authorising the 'raising of the capital from ,£20,000 to .£40,000 in order to instal a cheese plant. A deputation repi-wenting the Otago A. and 1 , . .Society and tlm Dimediu Vanpiers' Club waited on the Hon. Myers to-day and urged that the Railway Department fehould charge a quarter rate each way for stock exhibited at shows, tho societies to guarantee the bona-fides of stock as exhibits. Mr. Myers said that when a similar request was made two years ago, the general manager of railways opposed it on the ground that it would mean considerable loss to the Railway Department, lie was anxious to facilitate matters, but it was essential that the Department's interests should be thoroughly safeguarded. The suggestion of quarter rates was simple, but it was a larger questiun than appeared on the surface. He would ask tlio Departmental officers to lcok into tlio question again, and if it was possible to facilitate matters he would do so.
