OUR BLOATED SCHOOL COURSE.
ESSENTIAL SUBJECTS SUFFER. (By Teloeraph—Press Association.) Hamilton, May 14. The local School Committee last night passed the following resolution: That the committee, while appreciating very highly the excellent work of sonvo of the many teachers and schools throughout tho J)ntnmicn, regrets that the result generally attained is not such as to adequately equip boys and girls for the battle of life. The syllabus is so overcrowded that some essential branches of education are not given attention, with the result that arithmetic, writing and reading aro far from satisfactory. The committee feels there is room for improvement in Ihe relations of the Education Board nnd committees, and the board's disregard of committees is resented. The committee feels it its duty to approach the Minister for Education Asking for a commission of teachers and business men nnd others to be set up to fully inquire- into the present system, and if possible make alterations so as to give a better grounding in tho most important (subjects, the liberal treatment of teachers, assure committees of reasonable powers and finance, and secure for tho board men deeply interested in education.
