The Governor and the Minister for Defence both approved of the scheme, says General Godley, and think it should be kept nn entirely non-military organisation, formed to express interestill and to generally help Territorial units drawn from a district in which any member of the organisation may reside. Honorary meiiibers could, says General Godley, show their interest most practically by assisting Territorials who may l*e in difficulties, combating prejudice against and misunderstanding of the scheme, and generally making the Territorials realise that they have the civilian community at their, backs. Auckland, Mav 1.1 Two younpr men, John Rigg and Robert Pouneroy, charged with stealing from the steamer Aorangi on April 20 a suit case containing about- .£6O worth of jewellery, were before the Police Court to-day, ami were found guilty and committed tfl tire Supreme Court for sentence. SERIOUS POHUI FIRE. Napier, May 13. Th-o accommodation liouso at Pohu!, owned and occupied by Mr. H. Bodley, together with a bakehouse, billiard room, and several detailed buildings, was totally destroyed by tire at an_ early hour this morning. BOLD BURGLAR GANG. Auckland, May 13, Another daring burglary occurred on Sunday night, when thieves wrenched open the door of a grocery shop in Mount. Eden Road, and, smashing the lock of tile safe with dynamite, extracted ,£3O in silver, notes, and gold. The premises had evidently been thoroughly ransacked. At about li p.m. on Sunday several residents ili th-o vicinity were awakened by the noise of an explosion, but the burglars got away quietly with their haul. BODY FOUND IN A RIVER. , i. . Blenheim, May 13.--The body of John Ilickey, an old ujan, who had been missing since May 2, 'was found yesterday in the Opawa River. It is thought ho went down tho bank for some purpose, and slipped into tho river. BABY DROWNED IN POOL. Auckland, May IS. On Saturday, a little child, aged seventeen months," a daughter of Sir. Robert Steven, bootmaker, of Avondale, was found lying face downwards in a shallow pool about four o'clock, and (licit six hours later. The baby had been playing ..in tho yard unattended, and must hava fallen into the water and been unable to struggle out of it, although the pool was only four inches deep. Dr. Rossiter was sent for, but when he arrived tho child was in a most precarious condition, and nothing could be done to save lief life. MINE TROUBLE OVER. Duncdin, May 13. The trouble between the miners and tho proprietors of Christie's mine at Green Island has lieen amicably settled, the, emplovers having agreed to employ eeven of the men in opening up new ground at the mine.
