BLOOD ACCUSATION.

The reactionary organ "Zemtchina" describes the British signatories to protest against ritual murder or blood accusation as hypocrites and mercenaries, and odds that it is undeniable that Jews continue to kill Russian children, bleeding them for hours. A few days ago it was stated in a cable message that a manifesto, protest']!? against the attempt made in ICieff to revive the charge of ritual, murder, or blood accusation against Russian Jews, was signed by leading theologians, writers, scientists, and politicians in Russia, France, and Germany. The English signatures include those of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Archbishop Bourne, Lords Rosebery and Cromer, Mr, Balfour, and the High Commissioners and AgentsGeneral for the Colonies. « Sensational lawsuits are fast blunting the sensibilities of 1 " 1 the" Russian ' public. ■ From one end of the Empire to the other (says the London "Observer" of March 3) dissolving views of utter wickedness and heinous crime are unfolding themselves to the weary gaze of a curious but surfeited generation. One case which, although it has not yet come into Court, is already casting its dark shadow over things > and people, and causing painful anxieties among the Jews. It is the alleged ritual murder which took place in lueii over a twelvemonth ago. A little Christian boy named Yushtshinsky was found dead with forty-seven wounds in his body, which were evidently inflicted with some sharp instrument like a knife. The corpse was absolutely bloodless. There was also a mark round tlio neck which seemed to point to the child having been strangled. The medical experts hold that the death, which, presumably, was very slow, had been caused by the knife wounds, and I that the marks of strangulation were made subsequently and for the purpose of throwing the police off the scent, lor more than a year the police have been at work studying the question, and moving heaven and earth to elucidate the mystery. And now, at last there is an accused, an indictment, and the certitude of a trial. , , . Meanwhile excitement borders on passion. The anti-Semite's are preparing lor "revelations," while the Judoplulcs are working day and night to rebut the terrible aecu-ations hurled indirectly against their community. The Jews issued a book written to show that ritual murder was impossible among them, i and they are now distributing the work gratis to the judges, the possible jurymen, the counsel and the witnesses in the coming case. And the press, which favours them, is working hard to show that there has ne\er in history been a slired of evidence in support of the calumnious charge that the Jows commit wilful murder by way of a religious sacrifice.
