HOBART-BLUFF RECORD.
BROKEN BY THE MAUNGANUI. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) Invercargill, Stay 33. Tho Union Company's new steamer Maunianui, which was recently placed on the intercolonial run, has accomplished a record trip from Ilobart to the Bluff, tho latter port being reached at 11 ficloek this morning. The Matingaimi did not get away from Melbourne until li.au o'clock (in the morning of Thursday last, and arrived at Hobart at 2 p.m. the following day. .She got clear of the Tnsnianian port at. about midnight, and reached the Bluff as above. Ihe Manngamii covered tho 930 miles between Hobart and tho Bluff in 5< hours J) minutes. This eclipses the previous record held bv the Maheno. The Maungnnui's average speed for the lull journey: works out lit 15.27 knots, which is a noteworthy performance, considering that only three 'of the four boilers with which she is fitted were used. - , The Maunganni experienced fine wtotjier conditions on the run down, from the Victorian capital to Holwrt. On leaving the latter port moderate seas and northerly winds were encountered until Saturday night, tlumcc fine weather until arrival at tho Bluff.
