The Hon. G. Laurenson left for Christchurch last night. The Hon. J. A. Hanan.leaves Dunedin for Cliristchurch by the first express this morning, aud will arrive here to-morrow morning. Major-General A. J. Godley, C.8., General Officer Commaiuling the New Zealand Forces, left for the south last evening, accompanied by Captain J). C. SpencerSmith, his staff officer. Among the visitors to Wellington at. present are: Messrs. li. H. Lee, of _ New York; It. N. Anderson, of Shanghai; 11. P. Bell, of Sydney; and A. J. Bakktr, of Eindhoven (Holland). Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., of Mnsiorton, is to assist Mr. W. G. Riddel!, S.M., with some of the Lower Court work in 'Wellington during Dr. M'Artlmr's absence. Mr. 1!. W. Kerr, of the staff of the Te Aro Railway Station, who has been promoted and transferred to Blenheim, was presented yesterday with a dressingcase and shaving set by Mr. A. W. Moller, stationmaster, Te Aro, on behalt nf the staff and the various dairying firms using the station. Mr. John A. Clark, kind agent, and a very old resident of Tanranga, died on Sunday (states a Press Association telegram). Mr. T. W. Leys, editor of the Auckland "Star," arrived from . Auckland by yesterday's Main Trunk express. Mr. Robert Allan, a well-known Nelson business man, fell over a steep face while tramping the hills oil Sunday night. He received severe cuts on the head and chest, and several ribs were broken. His condition is serious.—Press Association. Mr. Honrv D. Baker, formerly American Consurat Hobart, who was in Wel- , lington for some months last year, passed through Auckland on his way to Vancouver by the steamer Makura yesterday. Mr. Balier is leaving the consular service to join the United States Treasury Department. Mr. Norman D. Collie, of Wellington, has accepted appointment as assistantorganist at St. Margaret's, Westminster, under Mr. Coss-Custard, one of London's . best-known organists. Mr. Collie will . have charge of the choristers will their i training, and will have the selection of t new choristers.
